TEACHER TRAINING 2017

 

JEANI MACKENZIE -program designer and primary instructor in technique of asana and teaching skills.

I have been practicing yoga since 1974, teaching since 1979. Practiced with BKS Iyengar in India, in 1977, Martyn Jackson 8 years, Shandor Remete 6 years.   Have attended workshops with Erich Schiffman, John Friend, Ana Forrest, and for the last 7 years, my teachers have been Diane Long and Jim Gallas.

I opened the Davenport School of Yoga in 1996, began teaching teachers in 2003.   I have trained approximately 60 instructors, many of them exceptional, and they teach throughout the QCA and beyond.   I have been a presenter at the Iowa Yoga Festival.   Also, I teach workshops on the west coast of Australia regularly.

 

PROGRAM will mainly follow the methods outlined in “Light on Yoga” BKS Iyengar   and “Yoga for a New Age” Bob Smith. There will be numerous publications by John Friend and Ester Meyers.   This program, by exploring your potential will open you up to personal growth and transformation.   You will learn more about yourself which will help you become an inspirational teacher.   What you already appreciate about yoga will be greatly enhanced.   It is a very important decision you make in deciding to choose this training.   We will have quest instructors who will be teaching Yin, yoga therapy, pranayama (breathwork), partner yoga and philosophy. And we will do some work with aerial yoga.                           .

– Proper executions of asanas

– How to verbalize poses effectively

– How to look for and correct common mistakes

– Conducting a class

– How to assist students in poses

– Basic use of props, rope wall, blocks, straps

– Functional anatomy

– Yoga philosophy

– Breathwork and meditation

– How yoga is therapy

 

THE COURSE consists of training sessions over five months.   It will require 5 hours of personal practice weekly, to be journaled.

We gather on the first and third Saturdays. If there is a fifth, we use that one also.   The first two months, we will meet in the afternoons. The last three months attendance will be the full day. The morning will be assisting in public classes, with three levels so you can learn to modify for different level of student. There will be required reading, with a project due in the last month on any related yoga topic.   There will be exams in anatomy and reviews on reading materials as well as discussion about said materials. All materials are included as well as unlimited classes during training months.   It is recommended that you have been practicing yoga for one year prior to enrollment.

Upon completion of requirements, which includes teaching a private class to instructor, you will receive certification at a 200 hour level acceptable by Yoga Alliance.

COST is $2,500 with deposit of $1,000 and arrangements can be made for payment.
